Breaking news: Space Shuttle emergency landing in Kinshasa

NASA Space Shuttle “Atlantis" (quickly dubbed "AtlantiLeaks") has carried out a controlled emergency landing at N’djili International Airport in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), today at around 18.08 h local time (GMT +1), sources and eye witnesses say. No one was hurt.

Ten million inhabitants of the poor nation’s capital, as well as several dozen international aid workers, have had a Sunday afternoon they are unlikely to forget anytime soon.

“When I saw it (the Space Shuttle) approaching, it was immediately clear to me that this was not the SN Bruxelles flight we were expecting”, said one member of the diplomatic community in Kinshasa, who was stuck in the notorious traffic jam to the N’djili airport, where he expected to board business class to a conference on good governance in Copenhagen, Denmark, via Bruxelles.
